Mary Evelyn Cooper

Mary Evelyn Cooper, 94, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Baptist Health of Lexington. She was born in Center Kentucky, Metcalfe County, to the late Frank and Mary Elizabeth Thompson Porter. She was a teacher in Metcalf, Barren, and Hart counties for 35 years, then moved to Versailles in 1994. Mary was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church since 1995.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Michael (Jean) Lawson, Lexington, Kenneth Lawson, Campbellsville, grandchildren, Ken Lawson, Brad Lawson, great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Lawson, Emily Lawson, Maddie Lawson, Adam Lawson, Evelyn Lawson, sister, Margaret Butler, niece, Marcia Butler, nephew, Steve Butler, and cousin, Patti Lattanzia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Lawson, and James I. Cooper.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Rose Crest Cemetery in Versailles, Kentucky. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and leave messages of condolence on Mary's tribute wall at www.BlackburnandWard.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Mary's name to Bluegrass Care Navigators.
