Marcia E. Ashton, 81, of Clyde, died at her home with her family by her side on Monday, June 24, 2024.
Marcia was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 11, 1943. She was raised by her wonderful and loving surrogate parents, who were her actually her aunt and uncle, Marcille (Smith) and Vernon Layland and Aunt Rema Smith. Marcia was a 1961 graduate of Lima Senior High School.
Marcia had worked at the Flat Rock Children's Home as well as the Clyde-Green Springs Schools and the former Fremont Memorial Hospital, prior to retiring.
Mrs. Ashton was interested in music, decorating, her pets, flowers, birds, especially hummingbirds,and making crafts. But,Marcia's absolute favorite things in life were her family AND shopping! She was a marathon shopper with impeccable taste and a great sense of style, which was only matched by her sense of humor! Being with Marcia was a joy for all.
On September 11, 1976, she married John "Jack" Ashton. He along with their children, Kimberly (Tom) Luebcke of Troy, Ohio; Brett Ashton, Northwood, Ohio; Deborah (Gary) McGrath, Clyde; Dustin (Victoria) Ashton of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; Scott Athey of Clyde, Ohio and Todd (Lynn) Ashton of Mentor, Ohio all survive. Their grandchildren, Chuck (Anne) Hall of Westmont, Illinois; Brad Luebcke of Troy, Ohio; Gwen Ashton of Toledo; Meghan (Matthew) Schatt of Cincinnati; Erikx Disantis, of Los Angeles; Eric (Connor) Ashton of St. Paul, MN; Sarah (James) Whitney of Carlisle, Ohio; Rebecca (Kevin) Hansen of Denver, CO; Nathaniel Ashton of Oak Ridge, TN; Monika (Ian) Holmes of Chicago; Jennifer (Ethan) Ashton of Joshua Tree, CA; Zane Aljabi of Mentor, OH; and Eva Kass of Mentor, OH, along with nine great grandchildren also survive.
Marcia was preceded in death by five brothers, Richard Smith; Gordon Smith; Robert Smith; Thomas Smith and Phillip Smith and one sister, Marjorie Faye Schultz.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Journey Church, Clyde, Ohio.
Memorials, if desired may be made to Journey Church or to Heartland Hospice.
