Marcia Jean Bostick Burton died on November 14, 2025, in Avon Park, Florida. Born September 13,

1928, to Ceylon Robert and Katherine Hayden Bostick, she was a fifth-generation Floridian and a

fourth-generation Hardee Countian. She attended schools in Hardee County and Florida State

University before graduating from the University of Florida in 1951. While there she was a member

of Kappa Delta Sorority, president of Michael and Lonilair Hall Council, and reporter for the

university newspaper.

Prior to her marriage, Jean Burton worked for the Florida Department of Social Services as a

district welfare visitor. She was a life member and past regent of Paynes Creek Chapter DAR now

Patriots Chapter, past member of Peace River Chapter UDC, past member of US Daughters of 1812

and a long-time member of the Hardee County Parks and Recreation Board. She worked for over 35

years in her husband's law office and kept books for their citrus and cattle business. A member of the

First Methodist Church of Wauchula since the age of 12, she was historian there for many years.

Jean Burton was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Burton, and granddaughter, Elizabeth

B. Crowson. Mrs. Burton was survived by her daughters, Kathleen S. Burton, Cornelius, NC, and Barbara

B. Crowson, Hurdel Mills, NC; son, John W.H. Burton, Wauchula; grandchildren, James Crowson,

Beaverton, Oregon; Grace C. Johnston, Hillsborough, NC; Stephen W.H. Burton, Wauchula; Rachel

E. Burton, Lake Placid, Florida; step-grandchildren,; Candace M. (Robert "Bo") Conerly, Wauchula; and Sean L. (Amy) Martin, Avon Park.

A visitation will be held at First Methodist Church of Wauchula on Friday, December 5, 2025, @ 10:00 A.M. followed by funeral services at 11:00 A.M.
