Marcia Shewey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pierce Funeral Home - Fairview on Oct. 22, 2024.
Marcia Anne (Kliewer) Shewey was born on August 31, 1940 to Herb and Inez (Martens) Kliewer on the family farm south of Fairview, Oklahoma, and passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 in Fairview, Oklahoma. Her memorial service will be held at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2024 with Pastor Travis Schmidt officiating.
Marcia attended Banner School, Progressive School, and graduated from Fairview High School in 1958. Her early years involved helping on the farm until her father built the Don-Mar motel (named after Marcia and her sister Donna Beth) in Fairview in 1950. She lived with her family above the office for ten years. Those years were described as "good years." Many hours were spent cleaning rooms and entertaining friends with sleepovers and swimming in the swimming pool -the only inground pool in Fairview at the time other than the city pool. In her early elementary years, her faith and trust in the Lord was made public at her baptism northeast of Orienta along the Cimarron River at the Sand Pit.
After graduating from Fairview High School, Marcia attended Tabor College where her high school sweetheart John Richard (Dick) Shewey joined her in the middle of their freshman year. After 2 years at Tabor, Marcia and Dick were married on November 5, 1960, and began to work on the Shewey family farm north of Fairview in Orienta. In 1973 they built a home together on the farm and raised their sons Andy, Stan, and Dale. These days displayed Marcia's hard work ethic as she maintained the home, raised a large garden, cooked hearty meals, and shuttled boys to church and school activities. In 1982 she began work at the newly constructed Shewey's Red Shed, a convenience store that her father had built across the road from the home. For twelve years she ran the register, mopped the floors, made deli sandwiches, stocked the shelves, and perfected any other task to provide excellent service to the customers. After the sale of the family home and Shewey's Red Shed, she and Dick moved to Fairview in March 1999 and held various jobs at Mom's Daylight Donuts, Alco, Kidd Drug, and Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. Each job was a joy to her as she loved to help people.
Marcia lived a life that displayed her faith and love for family and friends. She found much joy in raising a family, being a foster parent, and volunteering at the Fairview Mennonite Brethren Church. She taught Sunday School and VBS, sang in the choir, served on the Dining Hall Committee, and played the piano for any group that needed a piano player. She had a talent to play the piano "by ear." If she could hum the song, she could play it without sheet music.
Marcia is preceded in death by her husband Dick and her parents Herb and Inez Kliewer. She is survived by her sons Andy Shewey (Kerry) of Hillsboro, KS; Stan Shewey (Rebecca) of Meade, KS; and Dale Shewey (Shawna) of Hillsboro, KS; her sister Donna Beth Wiebe (Paul) of Coralville, IA; 6 grandchildren Clay, Grant, Kierra, Vance, Kyra, and Camryn, and 6 great-grandchildren Bear, Quinn, Jaxon, Addi, Oakley, and Savannah Shewey. Memorials may be made to the Fairview MB Church -Acts of Kindness Fund, or Gideons International with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 15, Fairview, OK 73737.
