Barbara Sue Bierig

Barbara Bierig, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed from this life on December 4, 2025, just one day shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born December 5, 1932, to Milo and Delpha (Nusz) Slaght southeast of Okeene, Oklahoma. After graduating from Okeene High School, Barbara married Richard "Dick" Bierig on July 21, 1950. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. To this union were born three sons-Dennis, Tom, and Rick-and a daughter, Dixene.

Barbara dedicated her life to her family, moving across several states-including Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming-and even spending a brief time in Canada while Dick worked in the oil field. Barbara felt that no matter where life took them, she could make a home. When not traveling for work, Barbara and Dick owned and operated the Red and White Grocery Store and Dick's Clothing in Longdale, Oklahoma, while also farming and custom wheat cutting. Barbara was known for her excellent cooking-whether decorating fancy cakes, turning overripe bananas into delicious banana bread, or preparing meals for the field.

She faithfully attended her children's activities, and that devotion continued with her grandchildren, as she delighted in supporting their school and church activities. She also enjoyed watching horse races at tracks in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Nebraska. Above all, Barbara loved her husband and family, raising them in a Christian home and serving faithfully in her church and community. She thoroughly enjoyed attending weekly Bible Study as long as she was able.

Barbara is survived by two sons, Dennis (Darla K) and Tom (Mitzie); a daughter-in-law, Cindy, the widow of Rick; and a daughter, Dixene (Rick) Howerton. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, son Rick Bierig, her parents, and siblings: Kenneth (Mildred), Bonita Young (Bill), and J.W (Donna).

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 15, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Fairview, Oklahoma with Pastor Derek Cox officiating. The family sincerely appreciates the prayers and kindness extended during this time.
