Huntersville-Some people walk this earth for a short time, others are able to walk longer, but in both their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us. On June 11, 2023, Marga VonSeht O'Connor passed away at home peacefully at the age of 96.
She was born to the late Hermann and Marie VonSeht on September 30, 1926 in Osterride, Germany. Marga therefore lived through many historical events that would shape who she was to become. She went to primary and high school in Germany and later went on to school in Scotland and England. As a young woman she was known for her spontaneity, adventurous spirit, athleticism, lightheartedness and drive. Whatever Marga did, she was all in!
Traveling and learning were her passion. That zest for life brought her and her friends to reside in Naples, Italy. Here she would meet the Mott's who became her immigration sponsor's to the US. Her heroic journey to America began on the USS Constitution thru New York and she settled in Washington DC. While in DC and working Marga met her husband and soulmate of 64 years - Francis Xavier. They married on June 6, 1959 at Saint Ann's Catholic Church and enjoyed eight years filled with military travel. They then welcomed the birth of their only child Ingeborg "Inge" in
San Antonio, Texas. The three traveled the US and abroad together prior to settling in
Boca Raton, Florida. Marga and Francis lived in Boca for 40 years before moving to North Carolina to be closer to their daughter. In all of their homes Marga always provided an open house full of love, comfort, and hospitality.
With a passion for learning and a fearless spirit Marga had a variety of jobs. These included working for the US Navy, the US patent office, law firms, an import export business and lastly, an engineering company in Boca Raton. She did everything with integrity and incredible patience, always making time to help others.
Marga is survived and missed by a loving family: her daughter Ingeborg, her son-in-law, Rusty - who truly became her son, grandchildren Kelsey and Connor - loving them greater than she ever imagined possible. And her canine companions Bear, Dakota and Hazy who each were an integral part of her daily life. And her memory lives on in all of our extended family and the many lives she touched.
Marga found joy in the simplest pleasures of life, she loved watching all sports - specifically live Charlotte hockey and MLS teams. She had an incredible green thumb, she loved working outside and managing the garden. But her true love was playing an active role in the lives of her grandchildren, whether it was watching them play sports, playing board games, having healthy banter or sharing advice on life skills. From friends and family the facetime phone calls, letters, cards and visits Marga received during the final months of her life were a tremendous source of laughter and joy.
Marga was strong-willed, fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate - she had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. She was generous, loyal, and brave. She was full to the brim, with knowledge gained through all of her life experiences. Those traits defined Marga, they were part of who she was and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life's challenges. She will be remembered for all the heart she shared with friends and family. She truly loved each one and if you knew her, you knew her love.
Mom, you are in my thoughts and prayers every single day I cannot put into words how much we all miss you. You loved so fiercely and deeply! We knew that we couldn't have you forever but we're comforted, knowing you're in a better place, you will be treated like the angel you are, and most importantly, dad has you back. Until we see each other again goodbye to an iconic woman and a beautiful mother inside and out.
