Richard "Rich" Joseph Covelli, 79, of Cornelius, NC, passed away on August 17, 2025, at his home. He was born on June 28, 1946, in Chicago, IL, to the late Frank and Constance Iacovelli. The world became a little less bright on August 17th with the passing of Rich "Rico Suave" Covelli. Rich's legacy of humor, perseverance, entrepreneurial vision, and benevolence will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His remarkable life will forever serve as an inspiration and a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit. Rich started his career in the insurance sector and quickly became a leading agent, receiving the Rookie of the Year award from State Mutual, being elected to the Indianapolis Life Insurance Company Advisory Board, and achieving the Million Dollar Round Table and Top of the Table designations. His entrepreneurial spirit soon took over as he bought, built, and sold multiple insurance agencies, engaged in commercial land development, and worked on golf course community projects, as well as built and sold a large resort services company. Many of his business relationships have evolved into lifelong friendships. Rich was a devoted father, a loving husband, and a loyal friend to many. He balanced his ambitious professional life with an unwavering commitment to his family. His legacy lives on in the work he accomplished and the values he instilled in those who knew him. Whether telling jokes, sharing stories, playing golf, or showing off his infamous dance moves, Rich made every moment unforgettable. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many others whose lives he touched. Those who knew Rich will remember him for his infectious smile and laughter, his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and his steadfast commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone he encountered. He had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Although his physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. Survivors include his wife Susan "Sue" Mucha Covelli of Cornelius; sons, Jeffrey Covelli and wife Krista and Thomas Covelli, both of Charlotte; brothers, Frank and Ron; and grandchildren, Andrew, Kate, Avery, Carlie and Colton.
