Jean Livingstone McPhee, 83, of Mooresville died August 17, 2025. She was born on August 10, 1942 in San Diego, California to the late Ralph and Genevieve Livingstone. Jean lived her early years in Solana Beach California helping her parents with their restaurant The Teddy Bear Cafe steps from the Pacific. She met and married Ronald P. Woods while attending Central Methodist College in Missouri. In their years together they lived in a variety of places including Columbia (Missouri), Kansas City, Hannibal (Missouri), Chicago, Washington DC area, Hazard (Kentucky)twice, Decatur (Alabama) Brunswick (Georgia), and Atlanta. Later in life Jean went back to school to receive her Masters in Spanish at the University of Missouri. Jean taught at a variety of locales in Georgia, Kentucky, and North Carolina during her years as a high school and college teacher of Spanish and French. She was greatly loved by her students for the kind and inventive ways that she would introduce them to French or Spanish and the nations that spoke those languages. She was an avid pen pal writer, writing to people all over the world for most of her life. After retirement one of those pen pals turned out to be more than just a pen pal. Malcom McPhee of Australia and Jean met and married in 1999. They spent every day together for the next 26 years. Jean loved to travel, she loved puzzles, she loved gardening but most importantly Jean loved her family and her family loved her. She was a fantastic cook and was most famous for her butterscotch brownies and tapioca pudding. Survivors include her son Kyle Woods of Roswell, GA, her daughter Tamara Bringewatt and husband Kevin of Davidson and her youngest son Kevin Woods and wife Lisa of Huntersville; grandchildren, Jake, Rachel, Marisa, Caden, Ava, Alexandra; and one great-grandson Karthi on the way. Her husband Malcolm McPhee and granddaughter Kara preceded her in death. Services will be private. If you would like to send condolences to the family please send to Kevin Woods at 8900 New Oak Lane Huntersville, NC 28078, Tamara Bringewatt at 526 Pine Road Davidson, NC 28036 or Kyle Woods at 5025 Riverside Park Drive, Roswell Georgia 30076.
