Dora Campbell, lovingly remembered as "Dora Dean Denny," was born on March 30, 1951, in Saluda, South Carolina. At the age of three, she was part of the great migration of families moving north, settling in Hempstead, New York with her siblings. Dora was a sweet and generous soul who loved sports, cooking, and spending joyful moments with her family and friends. She attended and graduated from Hempstead High School, where she gained recognition as a track star and a competitive softball player who thrived on challenges. At just 15 years old, Dora met a handsome country boy named Carnell Campbell. Captivated by her beauty, patience, and sense of humor, Carnell worked tirelessly to win her heart. Their love blossomed, and on October 24, 1970, Dora and Carnell were united in marriage, pledging loyalty and love to one another for a lifetime. Dora and Carnell's family grew up raising three beautiful children Natasha, Carnell II. and Chatina who are proud to be part of this union. On November 10, 1986, Dora began her career with the Hempstead Police Department, serving as Chief Russo's secretary. Renowned for her lightning-fast typing skills, she became known as one of the quickest typists around. Her dedication to completing tasks, managing projects, and coordinating meetings made the workplace more efficient and supportive for her colleagues. Over the years, Dora built lasting friendships at the department, many of which grew into lifelong family-like bonds. After more than two decades of service, she retired on April 3, 2008. In 2009, Dora and her husband settled in Davidson, North Carolina, to enjoy retirement together. During this time, she faced several health challenges but showed incredible strength and resilience, becoming a proud breast cancer survivor. Despite her illnesses, Dora continued to spend meaningful time with her loved ones, whether attending family events, tending to her garden, or simply sharing her kindness and warmth with everyone around her. Her cooking was always a "chef's kiss," the kind that brought everyone together and passed down her traditions. Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie, and Jim Denny; her brothers George Denny, Charles Denny, James Denny, and Ruthers Gomillion; and her sisters Susan Denny and Hattie Ruth Gomillion. She is survived by her brothers Rase Denny and Louis Gomillion. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Carnell Campbell; her children, Natasha Campbell, Carnell Campbell II,Chatina Campbell; and her grandchildren, Briyelle Coleman, Kaydence Stovall, Chase Campbell, Kimora Stovall, and Kourtlyn Watson. Dora also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchild, Aubrey Coleman-Tyrell. As we grieve her passing, we also give thanks for the countless sacrifices Dora made to enrich the lives of those she loved. We take comfort in knowing she is at peace in the arms of the Lord. Though she will be deeply missed, Dora's legacy of love, joy, and treasured memories will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. The service will be held at 11 AM Friday, August 29 at James Funeral Home with visitation 10-11 prior. Burial to follow at 1:30 PM at Salisbury National Cemetery. Repast information TBD.
