Eibler, Margaret
Pinckney, MI
Margaret (Peg/Peggy) K. Eibler (Gast), passed away April 13, 2022 peacefully at Hampton Manor of Hamburg in the Memory Care unit after a long journey with Alzheimer's. She was born Dec. 6, 1937, in Detroit, MI to Joseph P. and Helen Etta (Vos) Gast. She grew up in Houston, TX. She married Herbert John Eibler on June 8, 1957 in Ann Arbor, he preceded her in death on May 12, 2003. They met at a University of Michigan football game, a story she was very fond of telling. Peggy graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in English and her teaching certificate on January 31, 1959 and later a Master of Arts on May 2, 1970. She had various teaching jobs in Jackson, Lincoln Consolidated and Ann Arbor schools in between raising her three children and her involvement with Faculty Women's, Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae, drama group, bridge, International Neighbors, and church activities. She even sold Tupperware for 7 months. Never a dull moment as she always said.
She and her husband Herb, lived on Zukey Lake when they got married, then moved to Jackson and later Ann Arbor before coming full circle and moving back to Zukey Lake in the home that had been in Herb's family since he was a child. When they moved back to the lake, Peg got a job with WMU supervising student teachers. In 1997 she was elected to serve on the Pinckney Community Schools Board of Education and ended up serving for 17 years, she also served on the Hamburg Library Board. Being on the School Board afforded her the privilege of giving all of her grandchildren that attended Pinckney Schools their diploma when they graduated.
Peg and Herb loved to travel. They traveled across the United States and Canada (usually camping) too many times to count, there were also many trips to Florida to get a respite from the cold, gray Michigan winters. They traveled the world including Herb's month long sabbatical in England/Europe (1973), numerous other trips to Europe, an 8-day trip to China/Hong Kong, a bucket list trip to Alaska, a 19-day trip/cruise that included London, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Germany and Denmark, and a trip with her sister Janet and Phil to Costa Rica/Panama Canal (which their great grandpa helped build and died doing). She continued to travel with her kids, grandkids and friends after Herb passed away.
Peg was an intelligent, independent, feisty lady. She had a stubborn streak, but was also very caring. She shared a special bond with her sisters, and their husbands. Her pride and joy were her grandkids and great grands. She loved spending time with them and attending their extracurricular events. Her great grands brought her so much joy these last few years. She will be missed.
Peg is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, her parents Joe & Helen Gast, her step-mom Dru Gast, her sisters Lynn Lowrie, Janet Hogan, and brother-in-law Phil Hogan. She is survived by her three children, Beth Lynn Johnston (Dan), Joseph Frederick Eibler, Paul Herbert Eibler (Cyndi), her half-sister Alice Gast (Brad Askins), her 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, Danielle Sealey (Chad), Larissa Dixon (Scott, Madi, Evie, Clayton), Kirk Molnar (Ali, Easton, Ryder), Anthony Eibler, Luke Eibler, Kyle Molnar (fiance Mary), Kristopher Molnar, Tiffany Eibler, Alexandra Eibler, and Nathanial Eibler. She is also survived by Herb's brother, James Eibler, her step-sister Sandra Melo, her brother-in-law Les Lowrie, her daughter-in-law Laura Shields, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers and staff at Hampton Manor of Hamburg and Compassionate Hospice Care of Brighton for making her last months and days comfortable and treating her with dignity and respect.
Her Farewell Peg's family and friends will gather Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 1:00PM-8:00PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel in Hamburg, Michigan.
