Margaret Greenwell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on February 6, 1931, in Louisville, Kentucky, Margaret was the daughter of the late Jesse and Emma Jane Stillwell. She dedicated many years to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Margaret's life was a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished each one, showering them with boundless love. She possessed a remarkable green thumb, finding immense joy in tending to her vibrant plants and flowers. An avid embroiderer, Margaret also found comfort and companionship in her many beloved pets, caring for numerous dogs and cats throughout her life.
Margaret was preceded in death by her devoted husband, True Roy Greenwell; her sons, Garry Greenwell and Steven Roy Greenwell; her daughter, Doris Greenwell; and her grandsons, Dennis Dewayne Taylor, Christopher Adams, and David Greenwell Jr. She also joins her parents, Jesse and Emma Stillwell; her son-in-law, Dennis Taylor; and her daughter-in-law, Linda Grauel.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Rebecca Greenwell of Jeffersonville, Indiana; Joyce Scott (Robert) of Jeffersonville, Indiana; Phyllis Taylor of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and Trulisha Marks (Wendell) of Jeffersonville, Indiana. She also leaves behind her sons, David Greenwell of Greenville, Indiana, and Timothy Greenwell of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Margaret is survived by her brother, Carlos Stillwell of Louisville, Kentucky, along with a vast and loving legacy of 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to celebrate Margaret's life will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
