Margaret Anne Elam, Born on April 12,1941. Anne Elam peacefully passed away on July 19th at age 84, surrounded by her family. Anne was born and grew up in Mocksville N.C., to Mr. Edward Gray Hendricks and Margaret Anne Frye Hendricks. Her only sibling was Eddie Hendricks (Jamie Hendricks) who was born 11 years later. Anne attended Davie County High School and furthered her education by attending Appalachian State Teachers College, majoring in Education and then furthered her education by obtaining a Master's degree in education from UNCG.
She was an educator in various capacities, from teaching 4th grade up through High School Biology, which proved to be her favorite subject to teach. She retired from teaching after 32 years. She was a dedicated wife, mother, teacher and was first and foremost, a Christian. She served along with her husband of 60 years of marriage in many areas of the church. Such as 40 years as choir Director, about 15 years a church pianist, and many different positions in administration of the church. Anne loved to mow the lawn, work in the garden, and take long walks in their woods with her husband, dog and cat in tow. She was a private person on one hand, but on the other, their home was always open 24/7 to anyone who needed a friendly place to visit. Anne's journey through life leaves footprints of kindness, love, courage, compassion, joy and faith. Anne Elam was all of this to her family and friends.
So, even though she is deceased, the trail she has left behind continues to inspire all who happened to cross her path. Thanks to our lord for the life she chose to live. She gave so much, with her family and friends as the recipients. She was married to her husband Howard Elam of the home for 60 years and left behind two grown children, Tyler Elam (Misty) and Brian Elam (Anderson) and 7 grandchildren. Her remaining sister-in-law's, Donna Elam Smith, Jamie Handricks.
The Celebration of Life service will be in their Church, Union Grove United Methodist Church on 9903 N. Roxboro Rd, Bahama N.C, on Saturday, August 16th at 1PM, by the Rev. Ken Helms. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church in her honor would be much appreciated. Address is Union Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 13, Bahama, N.C. 27503.
Anne and her husband used to tease each other about her words on the tomb stone. The fitting words would be, " She didth what she couldth", and she more than accomplished this task.
