Margaret Ann Hutton, 98, of Tega Cay, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 3, 2026.

Born on December 19, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, Margaret was the daughter of Earnest and Alice Stewart. She was the fifth child and the only daughter, growing up alongside her four older brothers—Merrill, Hubert, Warren, and Sherwin. She was the final surviving member of her immediate family.

An avid lifelong learner, Margaret took many college courses, with a special interest in nutrition, though she never pursued a formal degree. She firmly believed her long life was due to natural, healthy food choices, daily supplements, and regular exercise—habits she maintained throughout her life.

Margaret’s remarkable love story began early. She met George Hutton when she was 13, and he was 15. George enlisted in the U.S. Navy before his 18th birthday and served through the end of World War II. Before leaving, he asked Margaret to wait for him. Two weeks after his return home, George and Margaret married in 1946—beginning a devoted partnership that lasted nearly 75 years, until his passing in 2020. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family, raising two children: James Andrew and Judy Ann.

Margaret embraced homemaking, motherhood, and being a devoted wife as her life’s work—often calling herself a “Domestic Engineer.” Later, once her children were in their teens, she returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper for a credit union in Long Beach, California.

A gifted seamstress, Margaret loved to sew—making clothing for her family and crafting beautiful quilts that she generously gave away. A faithful Christian, she loved the Lord, attended church, and regularly participated in Bible studies. Soft-spoken, kind, and beautiful both inside and out, Margaret had a gentle presence that drew people in.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Judy Ahern, and Judy’s husband, Jeff Ahern; two grandsons, Brian Sullivan (wife Brandi) and Shawn Sullivan (wife Stacey); six great- grandchildren, Hannah, Chassney, Toya, Indiana, Timothy, and Killian; and three great-great- grandchildren, Kaiden, Sophia, and Hazel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Hutton; her son, James A. Hutton; her granddaughter, Jennifer Sullivan; and her great-grandson, Colin Sullivan.
