Margaret Wiggins Lynch

Margaret Wiggins Lynch passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Born on June 18, 1938, she grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina under the care of her mother, Inez, and her grandparents Martha Elizabeth and George Smith surrounded by a coastal community she loved.

She married James Barnett Lynch on September 3, 1960 and settled in McLean, Virginia, where she raised their three children with devotion and selflessness: Susan Lynch (first born), Michael Lynch (third born), and Debra Lynch Kelly (second born), whose husband, John Federspiel, provided care in Margaret's later years.

Margaret's greatest joy was her family. Always an amazing cook and hostess, she delighted in her role as a mother and went on to become a dedicated grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of seven.

Margaret is preceded in death by her dear husband and by her beloved sister, Judy Taylor. She is survived by her two cherished sisters, Alice Walton and Ruth Bridges. She loved and appreciated them greatly and treasured every moment she was able to spend in their company.

She will be remembered for her steadfast spirit, tenacity, resilience and affinity for Christmas. James and Margaret enjoyed celebrating the Holiday by hosting an extravagant Christmas Eve party and decorating every inch of their home.

The values she instilled and the love she shared remain a lasting gift to her family and all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on November 8, 2025 at 11:00am at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
