Margaret Elizabeth Smith, 65, of Sawyer passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at her home.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Sawyer Highlands Church, 13100 Red Arrow Highway, Sawyer, MI 49125. Friends may meet with the family from 10-11 a.m. at the church on Wednesday, prior to the service. Burial will be in New Troy Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Berrien County Cancer Service, 3900 Hollywood Road, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com.
Margie was born on June 2, 1960, in Minneapolis, the daughter of the late Edward and Ann (Guiness) McTavish. She was a graduate of Lakeshore High School. On Sept. 16, 1978, she married Richard Smith. She owned and operated an upholstery shop, Tack & Thimble, where she transformed countless pieces of furniture into cherished treasures.
Her hobbies also included sewing, crocheting, beading and gardening. She loved the outdoors and was an avid birdwatcher. Above all, Margie's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished each moment spent together. Her home was a welcome sanctuary filled with warmth, love and laughter.
As a devoted Christian, Margaret lived her life with unwavering faith and integrity, encouraging others to find strength and solace in their beliefs.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Richard; three children: Richard (Miriel) Smith Jr., Edward (Amber) Smith and Charles Smith; five grandchildren: Clark, Lincoln, Nora, Eliza and Emery; brother, Michael (Deborah) McTavish and sister, Patricia McTavish. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her but will continue to live on in our hearts and memories.
Margie was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul McTavish.
