Margaret Luetta Smithson was born September 21, 1932 in Los Angeles, California. She passed away peacefully on April 4th 2025. She graduated from Bellingham High School and worked at the Bellingham Herald where she met her late husband Dean Smithson Sr. They married August 29th, 1952 at the Birchwood Presbyterian Church in Bellingham WA. She and her late husband spent over 50 years sharing a life full of adventure and excitement. Together they had two children, Dean Smithson Jr., and Cynthia Lee Mithoff who were a source of inspiration to her.
She was a gifted artist. Starting at a very young age she did drawings, then added oil paintings and last, added watercolor paintings to her repertoire. She offered these exceptional pieces of art to her friends and fans. She loved playing the organ at church services. She was a landscape artist, singer, enjoyed swing dancing, reading romance novels, listening to jazz, light classical and musicals.
In addition to her stunning beauty, she was lively, full of fun and young in spirit. Her loyalty was unyielding. She enjoyed helping people solve their problems and was a source of comfort to them. She was an amazing mother and loved guiding her children. She attended Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bellingham.
She was a trust administrator at Washington Mutual Savings Bank in Seattle and capital management administrative assistant for Security Pacific Bank and later a loan officer at Bank of America.
She is survived by her son, Dean Smithson Jr. and daughter Cynthia Lee Mithoff, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1720 Harris Ave. Bellingham, WA 98225 on July 31st at 3:00pm. Celebration of life to follow.
