Margaret Spurrier, 99, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, surrounded by family at her home in Lake Ozark, Missouri.
She was born on December 7, 1925, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to the late Marcus and Hettie Mae (Bernard) Zumwalt. Margaret graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1944 and went on to attend Lincoln University. She was united in marriage to Elmer R. Spurrier, on August 29, 1970, who preceded her in death on January 5, 2000.
Margaret dedicated over 40 years of her life to public health, first working as a Microbiologist in the Missouri Health Department Laboratory and later in Communicable Diseases until her retirement in 1988.
Margaret used to love boating and water skiing at the Lake of the Ozarks. Later, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and volunteering her time to civic organizations. She served on the Lake Ozark City Council and was a member of the Lake Ozark Lions Club. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Walkenbach (Richard) of Jefferson City, MO; three stepchildren, Nina Carter (Jim-deceased) of Ava, MO, Calvin Ray Spurrier (Susie Scholtz) of Casper, WY, and Janice Dillard (Jack) of Farmington, MO; one sister, Dorothy Bias of Owensville, MO; eight grandchildren, Eric Walkenbach (Holly) of Jefferson City, MO, Christy Miller (Scott) of Shawnee, KS, Beth Martins (Tony) of Plantation, FL, Danny Carter (Kellie) of Dawsonville, GA, Erica Strand (John) of Deadwood, SD, Justin Spurrier (Jess) of Juneau, AK, Andrew Dillard (Sara) of St. Peters, MO, and Jared Dillard (Katherine Bartlett) of St. Peters, MO; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and 8 of her siblings.
Friends and family will be received from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hartsburg, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
