MARGARET LaFRANCE STANFORD

February 14, 1940 -- July 23, 2024

Memorial Services for Margaret LaFrance Stanford, 84, of Dermott, AR will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024. Services will be held at Holland Chapel AME Church, 700 West Iowa Street, Dermott, Arkansas; Rev. Gwain Hammack, officiating minister.

Margaret was born on February 14, 1940 to the late Dennis and Mary Stanford. She dedicated her life to Christ at a young age and joined Soldiers Rest AME Church in Collins, AR. She later joined Holland Chapel AME Church in Dermott where she served as Stewardess and Sunday School Teacher.

Margaret graduated from Chicot County Training School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from AM&N College, Pine Bluff. Shortly after college she joined the US Peace Corps. Through continued acts of service, she became a distinguished PE teacher in West Memphis, AR and Dermott, AR; teaching for over 25 years. She was highly dedicated to fostering forever friendship with both her colleagues and students. She retired in 1994 from Dermott School District, but her care for others still remained. After retiring, she devoted her life to caring for her mother, community, and being the BEST Grandmother.

Margaret passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. in Baton Rouge, LA. She leaves to cherish her blessed life one sister, Rebecca Cook of Michigan; one daughter, Lisa Humphrey of Louisiana; three granddaughters, Whitney West of Louisiana, Bethany Jones (Billy) of Texas, Brittany Humphrey of Arkansas; two great-granddaughters, Raegan and Kennedy Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Dennis and Mary Stanford; three sisters, Naomi Jordan, Tommy Toatly and Ruby Wells; two brothers, Dennis C. Stanford and William Stanford.
