Margie was born Margie Ruth Jones on October 29, 1933 in Powell, Oklahoma to Samuel and Lillie (Parkhill) Jones. She grew up with four brothers and five sisters. She married Carl Askew on June 25, 1949 and together they raised four children. They were married for sixty-one years.
Margie was active in Church activities; from teaching five year olds in Sunday School, they called her “Miss. Margie,” in the early years to Bread of Life dinners in the later years. Margie sold Mary Kay for years and drove a pink Cadillac and she was active on the city council for several years. Margie also enjoyed her garden club and serving as president for many years. She also worked in the family business. Ms. Askew was an involved and active person in life. Margie lived with much happiness and many sorrows throughout her life and did it with grace. She will be greatly missed by all.
Margie is survived by her daughters; Rachel Kirby and husband Larry of Gainesville and Holly Davidson of Lake Kiowa, Texas. Her grandchildren; Damion Lee and wife Wendy of Stephenville, Texas, Mechelle Weatherford of Lake Kiowa and Jacklyn Harper and husband Kody of Little Elm, Texas, John Troy Kirby of the country of Georgia, Anna Askew and husband Joel Lepere of Bakersfield, California, Abigail Askew of Bakersfield, California. Great grandchildren; Ashlyn McGahey and husband Brandon of Richland Hills, Texas, Madison Lee of Arlington, Texas and Melanie Weatherford of Lake Kiowa, Brooklyn Terry of Stephenville, Texas and James Lepere of Bakersfield, California. Great-great- granddaughter Kyra Jones of Arlington, Texas. Sister Patricia Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents; Samuel and Lillie Jones, husband Carl Askew, sons; Howard Askew and Mark Askew, son in law Jack Davidson, grandson Timothy Askew, great grandson Cooper Terry, four brothers and four sisters.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m. at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home of Gainesville, Texas. A Graveside service will follow for Ms. Askew beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville with Wade Bower, Officiating.
