On April 10, 2025, Margie Jean Simon Shields passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 92 in Hattiesburg, MS.
Margie lived most of her life in Clarksdale where she and her husband, Richard, were known for their kindness, caring spirit, and dedication to family. She hosted numerous family gatherings at the Shields homestead where delicious food, camaraderie and lots of laughter were always found.
Affectionately known as Mama and Grammy, she is survived by her daughter Dixie Lawson (Robert) and her son Ricky Shields (Carol). The lights of her life were her grandchildren Robyn Ball (Nathan) & Connor Lawson (Valeska), and most recently, her great-grandchildren Madelyn Ball, Zoey Ball & Hope Lawson.
The last of her generation, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard Shields; her parents, Joseph & Nannie Huskison Simon; and all 10 of her brothers and sisters, John Simon, James Simon, Hayes Simon, J.C. (Jada) Simon, Paul Simon, Edward Simon, Lucille Simon Northern, Ruby Lee Simon Bischoff, Lillie Belle Simon, and May Simon Barbee.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS. Funeral services start at 11:00 am with the burial immediately following in the family cemetery on Sunflower School Road. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
