Marguerite Robbins Jordan departed this life on April 5, 2025, at the Commons at Brightmore in Wilmington, NC. Marguerite was the oldest of five children born to the late Henry Dozier Robbins, Jr. and the late Mary Alice Ballard Robbins. She was born on August 12,1938 in Leland, NC.
Marguerite was educated in the public schools of Brunswick County, North Carolina from grades 1-6. She moved to Durham, NC to live with her father's sister, Elouise Robbins Smith and her husband Gahazi Smith. She attended Whitted Junior High School and graduated from Hillside High School.
Marguerite graduated with Honors from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Nursing Education. After graduation she was employed at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital for thirty plus years. Marguerite was an outstanding professional and served as the Assistant Director of Nursing in the OBGYN Division. She served in numerous capacities including staff nurse and head nurse in the East Hospital, and a supervisor in the West, South and East Hospitals. Marguerite Jordan enjoyed excellent relationships with her staff.
Marguerite Robbins and Wille Edward Jordan was united in Holy Matrimony in1961. To this union, one son, Jonathan Fitzgerald Jordan was born.
Marguerite was taught at an early age to love our Savior, Jesus Christ. Summerville A.M.E. Zion Church remains her family's Home Church. Marguerite Robbins Jordan was an active member of the Fourth Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia until her health failed. There, she was a member of the Trustee Board, Lay's Auxiliary Board # 22, and served as Chairperson of the Financial Committee.
Marguerite was an avid community activist. She was a member of Virginia State Board of Nursing, a Board member of Ronald McDonald House, Richmond, VA, a member of The Women's City of Richmond Citizen Police Board, and a member of The National Baptist Convention, U. S. A. Women' Auxiliary.
Marguerite Robbins Jordan was a member of Mercy Stewart Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Golden Circle Prince Hall Affiliation. Marguerite was the one and only Grand Secretary for Ladies of the Circle of Perfection and served in this position for 17 years.
Marguerite loved her family and after retirement she traveled near and far to assist any family member who needed help. She enjoyed her church family, reading, traveling, shopping and her fraternal organizations.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her late husband, Willie Edward Jordan, her loving parents, her sister Dorothy Miller and her Aunt Elouise & Uncle Gahazi Smith who were surrogate parents during her schooling. She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Jonathan Fitzgerald Jordan, Atlanta, Georgia, two sisters, Essie Robbins Davis, Bakersfield, CA, Mary Shirlyn Robbins (Walter), Stockbridge, Georgia, and one brother Henry Bernard Robbins (Janice) Leland, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Ms. Jordan's life will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Summerville AME Zion Church, 2991 Dogwood Road NE, Leland, NC 28451. A viewing will be held one (1) hour prior to service.
Interment will follow at Summerville AME Zion Church Cemetery.
