Maria Victoria B. Basa, 80, of
Rochester, NY, passed away on March 12, 2026. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Manolo, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Maria Victoria was born on August 20, 1945, in Manila, Philippines. In 1971, she immigrated to the United States with her beloved husband and three-month old daughter, Maita. She was the daughter of the late Jose and Librada Bustamante.
She is survived by 4 children, Maita (Gerard) de la Fuente, Mayette Basa, Mylee (Leo) Dondiz, Joel (Lori) Basa and grandchildren Krista, Jonathan, Elisa, Alexandra, and Christian. Maria Victoria is also survived by her sibling, Jojo (Gwen) Bustamante, nephew (Josef), and extended family members.
Maria Victoria led a very full life, working as a model for television commercials and fashion magazines in her early 20s. While doing so, she pursued and completed her education, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree specializing in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines.
She met Manolo Basa, a promising medical student at the silver anniversary celebration of her parents and from that day on, their relationship blossomed and they married on July 4, 1970. Eventually, to further his medical career, they moved to the United States. Maria Victoria was devoted to building their new life in America along with their first daughter, Maita. The family grew and they settled in New York state where Manolo opened his Primary Care Medical Practice. As Manolo cared for his patients medically, Maria Victoria operated the business side of the practice as its Office manager, leading its staff and being a warm and welcoming presence for his patients.
Maria Victoria enjoyed cooking, especially for family and friends, and was known for her signature Filipino dishes bringing together guests for lively meals and wonderful company. Her love for others was manifested in the kitchen and she was always mindful of everyone having more than enough food to enjoy. She was also known as "Mom" or "Tita Vicky" to many of her children's childhood friends, always opening her home and being a source of support and love for them.
Maria Victoria was also devoted to her Catholic faith. She dedicated time to serving the Bukas Loob Sa Diyos charismatic Catholic community alongside her husband and children. They traveled extensively, serving the community's mission in various roles.
The Funeral Mass was held privately at Our Lady Queen of Peace and she was laid to rest with her husband at Ascension Garden Cemetery, Henrietta, NY.
