Maria L. Bonelli, aged 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at Regency Heritage Care Center in Somerset, New Jersey.
Born on February 28, 1934, in Miglierina, Calabria, Italy, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Alfonzo and Chiara (Giordano) Torchia. In 1967, she courageously embarked on a journey to the United States, settling in New Brunswick, New Jersey, which would become her cherished lifelong home.
Maria dedicated 25 years to serving her community as a cafeteria worker in the New Brunswick School system, where her warm presence touched countless young lives. A devoted parishioner of St. Mary Mt. Virgin Church, Maria found joy and comfort in her faith and her close-knit community. She was a gifted gardener who delighted in tending to her plants, and her love of cooking brought family and friends together over her homemade lasagna and famously delicious cookies.
Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ezio Bonelli. She leaves behind dear friends Virginia Terrizzi, Rose Viskovic, and Elena Tamburino, along with many extended family members and friends from the US, Italy, and Canada who will remember her for her love, kindness, and the warmth.
Friends and family may visit on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. at Gleason Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Church in New Brunswick. Entombment and committal services will take place at Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum in North Brunswick.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Church, 192 Sandford St, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 or at www.parishofthevisitation.org/online-giving.
