Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Maria Eugenia DiMeglio (Alvarez Escobar), also known as Mamasita, passed away on September 17, 2025, at 89. Born on February 8, 1936 in Medellin, Colombia, she was the eldest daughter of eight children of the late Alicia Escobar Rodriguez de Alvarez and Arturo Alvarez. The late Jerry (Ciro) DiMeglio, also known as mi amor (my love), was her beloved husband.
During her 50-year garment industry career, she owned her own shop The Dressmaker & Tailor in Downtown Milford. She was a true fashionista in every sense of the word. Her lifetime was dedicated to being positive and kind, and most of all, to laughing and sharing joy with family and friends. She always had a funny or inspirational quote to share. Among them was "la vida es un tango que hay que saber bailar" which translates to "life is like a tango that you must know how to dance to".
Among her many talents was her amazing cooking, her ability to turn strangers into friends, and most importantly, her infectious laugh that instantly made you laugh. She was an independent and strong woman who appreciated everything life had to offer. As soon as she woke up, she would say, "Thank you God for another day." She loved music of all kinds and one of her favorite songs was "Don't Worry Be Happy" – her mantra in life. Multilingual, she spoke Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and English fluently.
She touched many lives with her profound sense of humor, warmth, originality, curiosity, and lively, outgoing personality. If you met her once you would remember her always. And it's possible you fell instantly in love with her. She was that magical.
She is survived by her loving children, Paola DiMeglio and Juan Guillermo Alvarez; stepdaughters Theresa Pattacini and husband Bobby, Jerri Drazkiewicz and husband Stan; her sisters, Marina and Alicia; along with her nieces and nephews, all of whom will never forget the love and laughter she brought to them.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Amanda, Olga, Lucia, Héctor, and Hernán, stepdaughter Joann Rogers (DiMeglio), and stepson Nicholas DiMeglio.
