beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones on May 18, 2025. Born on June 3, 1940, in Norwalk, Connecticut, Nicholas led a life characterized by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family.
A proud United States Army Veteran, Nicholas served honorably as a radar mechanic during the Vietnam War. His service reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to his country. While stationed in Germany he travelled to Ischia, Italy, to acquaint himself with the origins of his family and met his future wife, Maria Grazia. Nicholas worked diligently to provide his family with the opportunity to visit Ischia frequently. It was important for Nicholas to allow his children the opportunity to feel connected to their family and heritage.
Nicholas pursued a successful career, lending his expertise to various companies throughout his professional life. He concluded his career with pride as a purchasing agent and was known for his diligence and reliability. His contributions in the business world were significant, but it was his devotion to his family that brought him the greatest joy. Nicholas was an avid gardener, growing seeds throughout the wintertime he excitedly anticipated the opportunity to plant his vegetable gardens, which he tended to with passion throughout the growing season. He enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family.
If Nicholas was not in the garden, he could be found working on his Volvos. A Volvo afficionado with a mechanically inclined mind, he taught himself how to maintain and repair them which brought him great satisfaction and sometimes great headaches. Among his favorite travel destinations were Italy, Maine, and Rhode Island. Always a purchasing agent at heart, he would peruse the online Caraluzzi's flyers (even during trips to Italy) for deals on broccoli rabe to make his family members aware. In Maine, his family and friends enjoyed their cottage where they would spend many vacations on the lake swimming, fishing, skiing, and boating. Later, his home in Rhode Island became the destination future generations enjoyed as the family blossomed. Being close to the ocean allowed Nicholas more time to fish and crab.
Nicholas is survived by his cherished wife, Maria Grazia (DiIorio) DiMeglio, and their four children, Ciro DiMeglio, Stefano DiMeglio, John Paul DiMeglio and Barbara DiMeglio Iacono, as well as his stepmother, Maria Eugenia (Alvarez) DiMeglio, and his dear sisters, Theresa Pattacini, Jerri Drazkiewicz, and Paola DiMeglio. Nicholas was a doting grandfather to his nine grandchildren, who brought immense happiness and pride into his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ciro "Jerry" and Jennie (Bruno) DiMeglio, his brother, Jerry DiMeglio, and sister, Joann Rogers.
Please join us in gathering for Nicholas Di Meglio's funeral mass on June 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 169 Black Rock Turnpike, Redding Ridge, Connecticut 06896. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Feeding America (give.feedingamerica.org).
