Maria Dolores Gómez Gómez
September 15, 1936 - March 24, 2024
Maria Dolores Gómez Gómez, affectionately known as Lola, peacefully passed away in her home in Watsonville, CA while reading her prayer book. She was born in Mezcala Jalisco, Mexico, on September 15, 1936, to Angel and Francisca Gómez.
Lola is survived by her brother Epifanio and sister-in-law Carmen Gomez; sisters Cuca and Esperanza Gómez; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly.
Lola played the role of a loving mother figure to many nieces and nephews throughout her life. She was referred to as The Baby Whisperer. From her early years in Mexico caring for her mother and sister, to her migration to the United States at age 40, she devoted herself to nurturing multiple generations of family members. Tia Lola's warmth and generosity left an unforgettable mark on all who knew her. She was known for her cooking, wit, humor, compassion, and selflessness. On her last day, she was still caring for her nephews and nieces.
Lola was a devout Catholic who rarely missed a Sunday mass at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church. In her leisure time, she found joy in gardening, spending time with her family, going to the beach, sewing clothes for her loved ones, knitting, crocheting, watching Food Network (Bobby Flay and Guy Fieri), Exatlon and crafting shows, and arm wrestling with her nieces and nephews. Chocolate was also one of Lola's favorite indulgences; she always had the best treats in her home.
A rosary will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on April 10th from 5 - 9 pm. A Mass to celebrate Lola's life will take place at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church on April 11th at 10 am, followed by her burial.
In lieu of flowers, the Gomez family kindly requests donations be made to the Diocese of Monterey (https://www.dioceseofmonterey.org/) in Lola's memory. She will always be in our hearts, and she will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing, joking with, and loving her.
