Maria De La Luz Sandoval passed away on March 15, 2025. She was 76.
Maria was a resident of Watsonville for the majority of her life. She was born on November 12, 1948, to her proud parents Abraham Ruiz and Consuelo Meza, in Jalisco, Mexico. Maria and her family emigrated to the US when she was a child and settled in Watsonville.
She met and married the love of her life, Francisco J. Sandoval and together they raised their five children and shared 13 wonderful years until his untimely death in 1983. Maria was a loving mother and a hardworking woman. She worked in local canneries until her retirement. Eventually, she came out of retirement and worked at Calabasas Elementary School for close to 10 years.
Maria was an avid gardener, lovingly tending to her garden in her spare time. Most of all, Maria loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
Maria is survived by her children, Rosario Meza, Guille (David) Dorantes, Guadalupe (Juan Cardenas) Sandoval, Javier (Nichole) Sandoval, and Daniel (Andie) Sandoval, her beloved grandchildren, David Jr., Lissette, Cynthia, J.J., Vanessa, Scott, Joshua, Benjamin, and Andrew. She also leaves behind her siblings Teresa Meza and Miguel Meza, as well as five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Francisco J. Sandoval.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel ~ 222 E. Lake Avenue, on Sunday, April 6, 2026, from 5 pm to 9 pm, with the rosary starting at 7 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Help of Christians Church ~ 2401 E. Lake Avenue, on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10 am with burial immediately after at Valley Public Cemetery ~ 2445 E. Lake Avenue, at 11 am.
