Maria Edna Moore, beloved mother and sister, died peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the age of 88. Edna was preceded in death by her father Angel Medina, mother Senaida Sisneros Medina, and brothers Pete Medina and Richard Medina.
Edna was born in Abó, New Mexico on April 20,1935. She attended school in Abó until 8th grade and obtained her GED while working and raising her family as an adult.
Edna was a caring sweet member of her community and worked hard to support her family, waiting tables, housekeeping, and for 20 years as a Cafeteria Service employee first at Mountainair Elementary School, then at Mountainair High School. Edna loved seeing all the kids' faces, offering an extra serving of someone's favorite dishes with a smile when asked and learning those favorites along the way – she made kids feel special because they appreciated her care and kindness. With so many years of service, she was everyone's "Lunch Lady".
Edna is survived by her daughters: Angelina "Angie" (Wesley) and Melissa "Lissa" (Anthony), her sisters: Teles, (Augustine) Garcia, Henrietta, (Raymond) Abeyta, Tillie (Frank) Luna, brother Johnny Medina and many godchildren, many nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.
Edna's fondest wish was to return home to "el rancho" in Abó where so many special memories were made with her siblings, cousins, and friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Abó, NM on Saturday October 21, 2023 at 11:00 am with Deacon Jose Lucero officiating. Burial will follow in the San Lorenzo Catholic Cemetery in Abo, NM with a reception at St. Alice parish hall in Mountainair.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Animal Humane Society.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary.
