This post is a dedication to my dear friend, Catherine Salgado
I am posting this so that I can encourage her friends from all parts of the world to do the same and share their fondest memories with her that she could read while checking her Facebook.
In the late 90s before all current social media networks came to prominence, there was mIRC (Internet Relay Chat client for Windows). We would always /join #vancity and #sixofour where Cath (cath604) and myself spent countless times, asking a/s/l to anyone who was new and downloading mp3 of the latest hip hop and pop music. The chatroom grew and friendships and romantic relationships were forged. Oct 1998 was when many of us decided to meet up (eyeball) at Red Robin in Metrotown. These friendships and relationships last to this day. Had it not been for mIRC, I would not have known Cath.
Later on, Cath and I worked together at an inbound call center where she became a guru in programming and perhaps kickstarted her passion for coding. We hung out a lot and in the summer we would have our picnics in Garrey Point or Spanish Banks. As time went on, we went our separate ways but we reconnected years later and thats when i met her son Nathan and partner Cris who are her pride and joy. When I first met Nathan, he was this ball of energy and is quite the entertainer.
Cath moved away to California and on one of my visits, she told me that she had been having this backache that felt different and wouldnt go away. She explained that she insisted to have a second opinion about her back pains and thats when she found out that she has Stage 4 Colon Cancer. That was in 2016.
Cath stayed very optimistic during this battle. She made many of us aware about this illness and most especially, she taught us how to value life and live it to the fullest. She showed us to be resilient and to fight until the end.
Cath I want to thank you for being this symbol for courage and a beacon for hope and for teaching us the important values in life. I know that if you could buy time, you wouldnt hesitate.

Our condolences to the Salgado family, Cris and dear Nathan. Days just seem a little bit empty and then something reminds me that Cath wouldnt want that sadness. Cath was full of life and love. She was a friend who always made time for you, even if it was a text to say hello.
I will treasure our many adventures, from the simple late night sushi, our binge watching of 24, to our many Seattle excursions, our cruise and Mexico.
Cath, you were an inspiration, you never gave up, you endured so much to stay longer here on earth for your loves. You are in heaven now with the wings you deserve...when I go up north and see the Northern Lights I know you will be there too.

My condolences to you Cris and Nathan and the Salgado family. Catherine was a wonderful, beautiful spiritual individual. She would give you the shirt off her back for you. Catherine was kind and with a warm heart. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. It has been an absolute honor to know you Catherine and that we were friends. I will miss our awesome conversations and your awesome laugh. I will see you in the next life. I send you hugs and kisses from down here.
