Marian Walsh Chruney, 88, of Cumberland, R.I., passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Philip Hulitar, Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Providence, R.I. She was the wife of the late John Chruney with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage.
Born in Archbald, PA, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Mary (Wright) Walsh. Marian resided in Cumberland, R.I. for the past four years, previously residing in Pembroke, MA. and Norfolk, MA.
Marian was a graduate of Blakely High School and attended Bloomsburg University, where she received a B. S. in Business Education and was a member of Pi Omega Pi, the business honor fraternity. She met her husband John while they were both at Bloomsburg University. They married in 1956 and raised 5 children. Marian was always involved with her children's many activities, clubs and organizations. She was a substitute teacher at King Philip High School and after moving to Pembroke, she was a realtor for Jack Conway Real Estate in Hanover and opened her own company, Village Green Realty, before retiring.
She was an avid reader who loved the library, going on outings with the Red Hats in Pembroke, playing cribbage and her many summers at Newton Lake, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband John and son in law, David A. Hood, as well as her beloved siblings: Nancy Lippert, June T. Teeple, Yvonne Moore and James Walsh.
She is survived by her brother, John Edward Walsh of Colts Neck, NJ and her sons: George and Jeannie Chruney of Vancouver, Wa. James and Donna Chruney of Greenfield Twp, Pa.; John and Linda Chruney of Uxbridge, Ma.; Jeff and Lori Chruney of Norton, Ma. and her daughter Colleen and William Myers of Camp Hill, Pa; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Marian's Life Celebration on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 3 PM to 6 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland, R.I. A Prayer Service will be held at 6 PM.
Marian will be buried with her husband John at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to HopeHealth Hospice or the Cumberland Public Library.
