Marian Orr Hills, known to those closest to her as "Red" unexpectedly passed December 23, 2024. Born August 30, 1941 in Hartford, CT and raised on a farm in West Suffield, CT, Marian made her life in Webster, NY. Predeceased by her parents Marian (McQueen) and Kenneth Orr, as well as her sisters, Kathryn Harris of Amherst, VA, and Judith Engle of West Suffield, CT.
After graduating from the Oklahoma College for Women, she began her career in primary education in Massachusetts. She met her husband, Duncan, on a blind date in December 1963, and married July 1964. Their daughter, Nannette, was born in Hartford, CT. They then moved to Webster in 1968, where their son, Bill, was born two years later. Marian continued her career as a Speech Pathologist at BOCES. She obtained a Masters Degree in Teaching from Nazareth College, and later welcomed two grandchildren into her life. More than anything, Marian loved adventures and many getaways with friends. Over the years, she traveled across Europe, China, Africa, and the Americas. Notable trips included hiking the Great Wall of China, racing cars in Baja, Mexico, and an African Safari. In her later years, Marian loved playing violin with the New Horizons Orchestra, spending time with friends, playing Mahjong, learning the clarinet, and enjoying time with family and friends, especially during her famous porch parties. She loved her family dearly, and was often the biggest supporter and loudest cheerleader of those around her. Her kind spirit and contagious energy will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her. Marian was always happy to offer a helping hand and expected nothing in return.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Duncan Hills; children Nan Hills and Bill Hills (Beth); grandchildren, Max Davis (Laura) and Alison Hills; and her cherished nieces, Kassi Allen and Tia Harris-Mock; as well as many other loving friends and family members.
Family and friends are welcome Tuesday, January 7th from 3-6pm at the Profetta Funeral Chapel 1650 Empire Blvd. where a brief service will be held at 5:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Horizons Music, the organization of which Marian was a part of for the last ten years. She played the violin growing up and picked it back up after 50 years. New Horizons provided an opportunity for her to join an orchestra, of which she enjoyed dearly. Office of Advancement, Eastman School of Music; 26 Gibbs Street Rochester, NY 14604 New Horizons General Program Fund.

Laughing and having fun with her at rehearsals when there was a pause in playing. A delightful person.

Marian played in the first violin section of the Irondequoit Community Orchestra from 2017-2020. She was a lively and very well-liked member of the orchestra, and enjoyed our after rehearsal ice cream socializing at I-Square. The picture is of the orchestra members in 2019-2020.
