Marie H. Hunt

Marie H. Hunt, 99, of Granville, NY, formerly of Pompton Plains and Morris Plains, died Thursday, February 6, 2025.
Born in Norwood, Marie was the seventh of eight children born to Albert and Ida Haake. Marie enjoyed an idyllic childhood, and remained close with all her siblings throughout her life. They were a special family that never wasted time arguing, but rather devoted it to enjoying fun times together.
Marie lived at home until the age of 25, when she married Robert F. Hunt. The couple met after Robert bought a home next to Marie's sister after World War II. Recognizing an opportunity in the handsome man next door, Marie's sister set them up on a date, and the two quickly fell in love.
Marie worked for several years as a Secretary at Mobile Oil in New York City before becoming a mother. After moving to Westwood, Marie and Robert welcomed a daughter, Nancy. Together, they raised her in Westwood before relocating to Fairport, NY, with Robert's job.
In 1969 they moved back to New Jersey, settling in Morris Plains, where they would reside for more than 40 years. There, they were active members of the Morris Plains Presbyterian Church, as well as the Shriners and the Elks Club. Marie also dedicated 40 years of volunteering at Morristown Memorial Hospital - first spent in the hospital coffee shop, and later at the hospital thrift store in Morristown.
In retirement, Marie and Robert enjoyed playing golf together (and would often laugh their way through a course). They also traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada with a Morris Plains tour group.
Following Robert's death in 2010, Marie moved to Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, becoming an active resident and enjoying the many clubs and activities the community has to offer. Her days were spent with friends, playing Wii bowling, out on the bocce court or near the horseshoe pit. She could also be found in the nursing home, where she would share her gift of playing the piano (by ear) with the residents there.
Family always was the center of Marie's life, though, and she will be greatly missed by her daughter and grandson, as well as many members of her extended family. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Pasanen and her grandson, Brandon Pasanen.
Visitation will be held Monday from 11 am to 1 pm at Scanlan's. A graveside service will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
