In Loving Memory
Marie Patricia Johnson
Marie Patricia Johnson, age 86, passed away April 15, 2025, in Spokane, WA. Born February 1, 1939, in Niles, California to Clarence and Edith Costa. She was raised by her Grandma and Grandpa Costa. Her Grandpa Costa was 105 years old when he passed. Marie was always very proud to say that he had raised her from a young age. Grandpa was an immigrant from Portugal at the age of 7 and became a United States Citizen at the age of 85. Marie spoke of this often was very proud of him.
Marie was eldest of five children – three sisters, Jerrie, Sharon and Judy and one brother, Butch whom she was always excited to hear from. Marie had two "Sisters by Heart and Faith" – Betty Rivera and Theresa McKenna who had been a part of her life since she was 18.
Marie's father passed away when she was very young. She cared for her mother, Edith (Costa) Wydra in her later years and was there for her mother 'til the end.
Marie was the most loving compassionate person you would ever have the privilege of knowing. She was the best wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend that one could ever hope to have in their lives. No one will ever take her place in our hearts.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Costa and Edith (Costa) Wydra; husband Leonard of 40 plus years; two sisters, Jerrie and Sharon; oldest son Tony; and oldest grandsons Anthony (Beau) and Zachary.
Marie is survived by three children, Rebecca (Steve), Richard (Patty), and Mikal aka Michael and LuAnne, wife of Tony; eleven grandchildren – Crystal, Steven, Justin, Richie, Mitchell, Melissa, Jessica, Michael (Mikie), Jacob, Katelyn, and Tiffanie; and eleven great grandchildren.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Please visit the online memorial website and sign her guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory have been entrusted with her care.
