AUBURN - Marie Cecile Nadeau, 84, entered eternal rest on May 5, 2025, at Hospice Home Care in Auburn, Maine, after an injury that initiated a sequence of events leading to heart failure. She was born on February 12, 1941, in Bucksport, Maine. The daughter of Alcide and Marguerite (Boucher) Nadeau.
Marie is survived by her three daughters, Deborah Cressey and husband Carl Cressey of Oxford, ME, Lanette Goddard and husband Dan Goddard of
Lewiston, ME, and Angela Wight of Lexington, NC; her sister, Annette Nadeau-Boucher of Crawfordsville, IN; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Marie lived a life full of vitality, independence, laughter, adventure, and with the passion to be an amazing mother, stepmother, grandmother (gram), sister, daughter, aunt, and cousin to her whole family.
Marie had a way of engaging everyone she met, even if only briefly, and made them feel seen and heard, and they left thinking "what a kind, funny, free-spirited person I just met".
After her career and raising children and stepchildren, Marie became a volunteer driver for Community Concepts for over 25 years. She drove individuals to appointments and listened to their stories. She engaged and truly enjoyed everyone she met as she drove them to the appointment and back home again. Individuals would request her just to have the opportunity to be with her and talk with her again and again. No matter what their stories or hardships were, she listened and brought laughter and kindness into their lives.
If you had the opportunity to be in Marie's life, you had a yearning to see her, speak to her, be with her, party with her, go on adventures with her, or just sit and talk and talk and talk with her. She had a way of listening without judgment, and you left a better person than you were before.
Marie loved the holidays and family get-togethers, and if you were lucky enough, you would have eaten her famous peanut butter fudge, vegetable squares, broccoli casserole, homemade spaghetti sauce, stuffed green peppers, and Indian pudding. You may hear her reciting a drinking quote or singing Rattlesnakin' Daddy or Bad to the Bone song and finishing it off with her father's famous saying, "How Sweet It Is".
Marie was predeceased by her father, Alcide Nadeau; mother, Marguerite Boucher; stepmother, Annie Mae; son, Edmund C Wight; brother, Joseph Nadeau; son-in-law, Dean Harrington; and best friend, Mercedes Tims.
A wake will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025 at Albert & Burpee Funeral Home at 253 Pine Street,
Lewiston, ME, to allow family and friends to gather, reflect, and pay their respects.
A graveside ceremony for immediate family members will be held later this summer to lay her ashes to rest beside her father's and mother's gravesite in Bucksport, ME, at St. Vincent DePaul cemetery overlooking Silver Lake.
A Celebration of Life with her Nadeau family members from multiple states will take place in July at Old Orchard Beach.
