Marie Cassandra Ropes, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away peacefully at her home on January 17, 2025, at 79. Born on May 21, 1945, in Chicago, Sandy was a beacon of love and kindness to all who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of the late Richard and Sophie McGinnis and grew up surrounded by the warmth and guidance of her loving family.

Sandy's life was a tapestry of love and dedication, woven through her 56 years of marriage to her loving husband, Dave Ropes. Together, they were a testament to enduring partnership and mutual support. Sandy was a devoted mother to her daughter, Ali Palmer, and her son, Mike Ropes. Her joy multiplied with the birth of her granddaughter, Lilly Palmer.

Her sisters, Cathy Astrof, Jeannie McGinnis, and Anne Poisson, will remember Sandy as the embodiment of sisterly love and the family's cornerstone. Her presence brought comfort and happiness to every family gathering, and her memory will continue to inspire them.

Sandy moved to Port Washington, Long Island in her early teens, where she laid down roots. Sandy's journey led her to the University of Florida, where she studied Business and was an Alpha Omicron Pi sorority member. Her education paved the way for a remarkable career in the fashion industry. She first worked as a house model for Hanna Troy on Seventh Avenue in New York City. She later joined Saks Fifth Avenue as a stylist, where she worked from 1972 until 1983, eventually rising to the prestigious position of Director of Styling. Sandy's passion for style and elegance was evident when she worked in the first boutique store for Ralph Lauren in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Sandy's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. She was an avid golfer, a culinary enthusiast, and an intrepid traveler. Alongside her husband, she traversed the globe, embracing the beauty of different cultures, attended 5 Olympic games, and created a mosaic of unforgettable memories.

Those who knew Sandy will recall her as a loving, kind, and selfless individual. She had the rare ability to make everyone feel special and valued. Her warmth radiated through her smile, and her generosity knew no bounds. Sandy's legacy is one of grace, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to her loved ones and the community that she so dearly cherished.

As we bid farewell to Marie Cassandra Ropes, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a spirit that will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched. Her departure leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but her influence will forever be felt. Sandy's life was a journey of love, laughter, and elegance, and she will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
