Marie Zemanovich, 90, of Carteret passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at John F. Kennedy University Medical Center in Edison.
Born and raised in Elizabeth NJ, she was the loving daughter of Elizabeth and John Shyka. Marie settled in Carteret in 1959 and devoted herself to a life as wife and mother. She was an active parishioner of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Carteret.
As a long time member of the Carteret Seniors, Marie thoroughly enjoyed crafting and painting with her friends, and socializing at the many events the Seniors Group hosted.
In warmer weather Marie always enjoyed attending local outdoor concerts. She was particularly talented at crocheting, making many blankets, sweaters and infant hats for her cherished children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Through the years she graciously donated innumerable crocheted hats to area hospitals for premature babies.
Along with her husband, the late Edward Zemanovich, Marie always enjoyed a good road trip, whether it was a Sunday drive to the mountains or the Jersey shore, or longer journeys to visit friends and relatives many states away. Their most memorable adventure took them on a two-month cross country trip to the West Coast, visiting many different states and towns along the way. Marie loved to take pictures and videos of their travels and of her family. As a lifelong learner, she became extraordinarily adept at the computer and smart phone, both of which she loved to use to keep in touch with family and friends.
Marie will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother by all who knew and loved her.
Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward. Together they raised 3 children, Roy Zemanovich, wife Donna, Janet Gordon, and Gary Zemanovich, wife Denise. Marie's legacy also includes seven grandchildren, Mark Zemanovich. wife Christabel, Rachel McGrath, husband Dan, Matthew Zemanovich, wife Lesley, Kristen Zemanovich, fiancé Michael, Kevin Gordon, Kyle Gordon and Lauren Zemanovich, as well as four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Adam and Eric McGrath, and Anna Zemanovich.
Marie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Julia Hosford, who introduced Marie to her brother Edward, who would become Marie's husband.
Her many relatives and friends will sorely miss Marie, and may pay their last respects on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm at the Chubenko Funeral Home, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading.
Funeral services will begin at 8:45am on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from Chubenko Funeral Home followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church in Carteret. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Joseph R.C. Church in Marie's memory.
