In Loving Memory of Marietta Marie Ward Walter Miller A Life Celebrated Marietta Marie Ward Walter Miller passed away in Gothenburg, Nebraska, on January 21, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with interstitial lung disease. She was born on January 25, 1940, to Clarence (Jack) and Etta Ward in Larned, Kansas.
Marietta was preceded in death by her parents, two infant brothers, Ronald and Robert; brother Dwayne Ward; son, Monte Miller; son-in-law, Jackie McClain; and granddaughter, Andrea McClain. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Irvin Dale Miller; her siblings Donna (Daryl) Sever, Carol (Dave) Cheetsos, Wesley Ward, and sister-in-law Christine Ward; her children Regina Walter (John Wallace), Rhonda (Brian) Gaudet, Misty (Ron) Rios, Teresa (Art) Miller, Eric (Sheryl) Walter, Reece (Rose) Miller, Dorrie (Michael) Mathias, and Dirk (Christine) Miller. Marietta also leaves behind twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.
Marietta was a dedicated registered nurse who practiced in Colorado Springs, Gothenburg, Cozad, and North Platte. Her passions included playing contract bridge, fishing, and enjoying time with her family. Throughout her life, she was an avid hunter, cross-stitcher, quilter, painter, and dispenser of medical wisdom. Marietta traveled across the country to play bridge, take her mom bowling, and support her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at various competitive events and performances.
Marietta was always positive, opinionated, and known for having her unique method of accomplishing tasks, famously known as "Marietta's Way." Her favorite thing was to rock with a child in her lap. She loved Jim Reeves, Carole King, sunflowers, peonies, cemeteries, and windmills.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025, 1:00-7:00 pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 62010th St, Gothenburg, Nebraska with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, 1401 Lake Ave, Gothenburg, Nebraska with Pastors Grace Gichuru and Robert Litzenberger officiating. Lunch will follow at the church.
Graveside services will be held at 2 pm at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.
Marietta will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Meals On Wheels/Gothenburg Senior Center or Wreaths across America/Fort McPherson.
