Marilyn Hicks Obituary
January 13, 1937 - December 20, 2025
Coral Gables, Florida - Marilyn Mayes Hicks, 88, of Coral Gables, passed away on December 20, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Donald Hicks. She is survived by her children, Laura Roberts (Jeff) and Jeff Hicks (Charlotte); seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Born in 1937 to Thomas and Bernice Mayes, Marilyn was a proud "Gables girl," graduating from Coral Gables High (1955) and the University of Kentucky (1959), where she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma. After a career as an FPL home economist, she married Don in 1961 and shifted her focus to family. In 1981, she returned to Gables High as a CAP counselor, helping countless students before retiring in 2004.
Marilyn's greatest joy was her family and friends, and she was always present for those she loved. Weekends with family at their home in Stiltsville were a favorite. An avid bridge and canasta player, she was a devoted friend to many.
Her community service was extensive, including terms as President of the Junior League of Miami, chairing the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Committee, and chairing KKG conventions. She was a member of PEO Sisterhood, Riviera Country Club, and Biscayne Bay Yacht Club.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, at 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables (536 Coral Way). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church's Scholarship Program.

I would like to offer my condolences to Mrs. Hicks´ family for your loss. My story is quite unique in that when I read the obituary here I immediately recalled that my parents purchased the very home Marilyn and Don Hicks lived in on the opposite side of US 1 and Suniland Mall. My mother always remembered them and how pleasant they were, and I never forgot their names! That was my family home until Hurricane Andrew´s ravages in 1992! Again, so very sorry for your loss.
