Marilyn Jo Hoffert, age 88, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, died on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Knox Community Hospital.
Born on December 20, 1936, in Pasadena, California, to the late Ralph W. Lane and Ruth V. (Rollins) Lane Ames, Marilyn was the middle of three sisters. She and her family lived in various cities on the West Coast before moving to Bourbonnais IL where she met the love of her life. She and Marvin married in 1955 and began their family a few years later. Marilyn excelled at various jobs in the years to come when in 1991 she obtained her bachelor's degree and started her decades long career as a Certified Public Accountant. She and Marvin had a love of bicycling and ventured many of the trails in Ohio. An excellent cook, seamstress & puzzler, Marilyn could "MacGyver" her way in any situation.
Marilyn's legacy includes her four children; Denise (Joel) Smith of Lancaster OH, Mel (Verna) Hoffert of Fairfield OH, Chawn (Scott) Flemming of Bangaluru India, and Joe (Kendra) Hoffert of Seymour IN.; along with their families. As Grandmere to 11 grandchildren and 8 great grands she cherished each one.
She modeled grace, discipline, intelligence and creativity throughout her life. Her life of faith and commitment to her family were her highest priorities.
Separated by only 8 months Marilyn joined her beloved husband, Marvin Louis Hoffert who died in February 2025.
A private ceremony will be held in the future at the Kokosing Nature Preserve; 10620 Quarry Chapel Rd, Gambier, OH 43022.
