Marilyn M. (Jute) Strubbe, age 85, of Plymouth Township, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland. She was born October 16, 1938 in Ashtabula, Ohio the daughter of Emerick and Elizabeth (Chismar) Jute and has been a lifelong resident. She was a 1956 graduate of Ashtabula High School. She married Robert C. Strubbe Sr. on Oct. 12, 1957.
Marilyn worked as a dental receptionist for Dr. Lyle Curie for 12 years and then for Dr. John Pearson for 19 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace, Mt. Carmel Church in Ashtabula and also attended St. Joseph Church in Jefferson.
She was a member of the Ashtabula County Genealogical Society. She was awarded Volunteer of the year by The Ashtabula County District Library in 2022. She volunteered at Geneva Public Library from January of 2008 to April of 2016. She also volunteered at Ashtabula Public Library working in the Genealogical department. She entered obituary information into the ACDL Genealogy database right up to her death. She was a past member of Plymouth Fire Department Auxiliary.
She enjoyed creating Family Genealogy History Binders for her own family and other friends as well. She enjoyed knitting, making many hats and afghans for family and friends. She loved gardening so much that she obtained a Master Gardener Certification. She also loved bird watching and puzzles. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler and was on a women's league at St. Angelo's Lanes. She was an excellent baker, often using her Croatian/Slovakian family recipes. She hosted Christmas Eve dinners with family, and all enjoyed her game "Night before Christmas".
Family vacations were important to her as they took their sons camping to many historical sites and National Parks. She also took her 3 sons to all of their sporting practices, games and activities.
Surviving her are three sons, Robert Jr. (Terri), James (Cindy Carman), and William (Lissa), all of Ashtabula; sister Caroline (Jute) Morris; six Grandchildren, Jason, Christina, Erin (Marc) Bovee, Kayla, Laura, and Gregory; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and companion Ed Richards and his family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Stanley Jute; her sister Betty (Jute) Scott; and her beloved husband of 59 years Robert C. Strubbe Sr.
A private service will be held Wednesday April 3rd at 11:00 am at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W 19th Street (Carpenter Rd) Ashtabula, Oh. 44004.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Plymouth Township Fire Department or the Genealogy Department of ACDL.
