Marilyn Summers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel of Capitol Hill on Apr. 11, 2022.
Marilyn Sue Summers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on April 5, 2022, at the age of 81. She was born in Oklahoma City to Clare and Ramona (Shaw) Smith. After graduating from Harding High School and the University of Oklahoma, she moved to Muskogee. She met her future husband, Hardy Summers, while working the courthouse beat for the Muskogee Phoenix. After rearing their children in Muskogee, they moved to Oklahoma City where she enjoyed a rewarding career as a librarian in the Metropolitan Library System. Among her many causes, passions, and hobbies, she was an enthusiastic member of the First Unitarian Church for several decades.
Marilyn is survived by two children, Julia Summers and son-out-law Chris Renoud, and Andrew Summers and daughter-in-law Amanda; five grandchildren, Gabe, Dalton, Rogan, Lucia, and Isabella; three great-grandchildren, Mabry, Rowan, and Laurane; her brother Roy Smith and sister-in-law Bev; nieces Cristy, Kelly, and Courtney; many cousins including her especially close cousin Diane Shaw of Santa Fe; her lifelong best friend Judy Waite; and her special friend, Ron Dean.
A memorial service will be held May 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church of Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood of America, or the Sierra Club.
