Marilyn Diane Waer (Kickner)

Beloved Wife, Mother, and Friend

Marilyn Diane Waer (Kickner) passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at her home in Lake Oswego. She was 77 years old and had faced a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born on November 26, 1947, in Eugene, Oregon, Marilyn was the eldest of three children of Ray and Patricia McGaffey. She spent most of her life in Eugene, where she grew up and built lasting friendships. Marilyn worked for many years for U.S. Bank in both Eugene and Portland before retiring after a long and dedicated career in banking.

Marilyn was first married to Robert Kickner until his passing in 1999. Their marriage was filled with memorable adventures, including raising their sons, cheering them on in sports, and enjoying countless family trips together. In 2002, she married Glenn Waer, with whom she shared many wonderful years until his passing in 2019. Marilyn especially cherished their time at the cabin on Fishhawk Lake, where she loved spending peaceful days outdoors with loved ones.

Known for her kind heart and creative spirit, Marilyn found joy in hiking, listening to music, gardening, and attending theater performances. The Beatles were her favorite band, and their songs brought her comfort and happiness throughout her life. She had a gift for making others feel cared for and always prioritized family.

Marilyn is survived by her sons, Bob and Chris; her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Cheryl; and her brother, Dennis. She will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and unwavering love; she is loved by many and will be deeply missed. To honor her memory friends and family are encouraged to donate to Marilyn's favorite charity the Oregon Zoo Foundation at oregonzoo.org.
