Marilyn Wize, 81, of Las Vegas NV, peacefully passed away July 9th, 2023, surrounded by family. She was a long-term Las Vegas resident and taught in the Clark County School District for over 25 years. Marilyn was born April 13, 1942 to Eino Saari and Martha Lakkala Saari in Ironwood, Michigan.
She is preceded in death by both parents, her brother Roger Saari, her daughter Leah Gibbons, and her husband Bob Wize.
She is survived by one daughter, Jonna Morris; sister Vicki Saari; niece Emily and nephew Nick; and the highlights of Marilyn's life, her six grandchildren, Jessica and Tim Cox, Cody Milligan, Kelli and Lindsay Johnson, and Dylan Morris. She also had 8 great grandchildren, Blyss, Ella, Blake, Carmine, Arrow, Lydia, Luna, and expecting Evangeline in December.
Marilyn enjoyed reading, traveling, and biking. In her spare time, she volunteered at a local food bank in Las Vegas. She was politically active and advocated for her beliefs. She was always there to help the needy, including animals, and donated monthly to the ASPCA. Marilyn had a generous and loving spirit and the greatest sense of humor. Marilyn was greatly loved by her students, her family, and her friends. The world is a better place because of her. She was a "one-of-a-kind" woman and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, August 11, at Davis Funeral Home at 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local Animal Rescue.
