Marilynn was born October 1, 1936 to Perry W. and Faye (Williams) Morton in Lincoln, NE where her father practiced law. She enjoyed a happy childhood with her brother Perry in Lincoln, highlighted by family trips to Grand Lake, CO.
Her family moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1953 when her father Perry was appointed Assistant Attorney General in the Eisenhower administration. Marilynn earned a mathematics degree from the University of Maryland in 1958 and started work for the Department of Defense (NSA) as a computer programmer and cryptanalyst. She was the first woman hired by the NSA from a state university.
Marilynn met her future husband Dick when they started work at the NSA on the same day. They were married in 1962 at National Presbyterian Church in Washington, then moved to Marietta, OH and Akron, OH for Dick's newspaper career. Marilynn became a devoted homemaker and mother of two sons, Lachlan and Roderick. Her involvement in everything for her family was loving and constant.
As an empty-nester, she found a new way to stay involved, serving for years as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and administrator at Faith Academy in Akron.
In 2004, Marilynn and Dick moved to Georgia to be closer to family. They remained constant fixtures at church events and at their grandchildren's baseball games, recitals, concerts and birthdays.
Marilynn is survived by sons Lachlan (Cheryl) McBane of Lilburn and Roderick (Cynthia) McBane of Pearland, TX; grandchildren Sean (Lauren), Huell (Abby), Liam (Allison), Dorothy, William and Connor McBane, and great-granddaughters Fiona, Flora, Felicity, Faith, Sylvia, Luna and Marilynn Joyce McBane.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AnswersInGenesis.org or to Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 3930 Chamblee-Tucker Rd., Atlanta, GA 30340.
