In Memory of Marino Huánuco Rivera
1934 – 2025
With deep regret, the Huánuco Pérez family announces the death of Marino Huánuco Rivera, which occurred on February 25, 2025, at the age of 90.
He was born in La Oroya, Junín, Peru, and dedicated his life to serving others as a general surgeon at the Social Security of Chimbote.
His vocation went beyond medicine: he cared for those who needed it most without expecting anything in return. From a simple consultation to complex surgical procedures, Dr. Marino left an indelible mark on the health and well-being of his community.
His commitment to family planning led him to become an expert and enthusiast of the Billings method, and his leadership made him Director of two hospitals in Peru, where he organized humanitarian aid missions for those most in need.
His humanitarian work was also carried out in medical missions in the young towns of Huarmey, Chimbote and Trujillo, where he offered free consultations and promoted family planning to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
He carried out this work in conjunction with the Catholic Church and the World Family Organization.
His commitment to education and medicine led him to represent his work at important international conferences in Guatemala, Caracas, Mexico City, Toronto, Miami and New Orleans. In addition, his academic work transcended borders, with his medical thesis published in France.
His love for knowledge never diminished. Until a few years ago, he decided to embark on a new challenge and studied Psychology at the Catholic University of Trujillo, reflecting his inexhaustible passion for learning.
Beyond his profession, Marino was an exemplary family man. His wife, Ernestina Pérez Valderrama, and his children Juan, Katty and Marino, along with his grandchildren, nephews and friends, remember him as a patient, wise and generous person.
He firmly believed in the power of study and always encouraged his loved ones to excel: "You have to be a doctor," he used to say to his children and nephews.
A lover of reading and medicine, he enjoyed the small moments that life offered him. Always up to date in his profession, he found in books and medical articles an inexhaustible source of knowledge.
His teaching and legacy remain in all those who had the privilege of knowing him. As he himself said: "Things in life are achieved brick by brick, step by step, without despairing, but always focused on a goal."
His farewell will be this Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Miami, Florida. We thank everyone who is with us in this difficult time.
