Marion L. Fottler, 81, of Taunton, passed away peacefully at home on May 28 after a long illness. Born in Dorchester, she was the loving daughter of the late Franklin and Helen (Kippenhan) Johnson.
Marion met her beloved husband, James M. Fottler Sr., through their siblings, and they married on August 7, 1965. They raised their family in East Taunton and later settled in Taunton in the late 1970s.
A lifelong learner, Marion graduated from Cardinal Cushing High School while working at a Boston bakery. She later earned her Medical Assistant/LPN Certificate, an Associate Degree from Bristol Community College, and a BA from Roger Williams University, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Marion was a spirited entrepreneur who combined her passions for baking, photography, and her role as a Justice of the Peace into a unique "one-stop-shop" wedding business. Sociable and warm, she loved meeting new people and took pride in officiating many weddings, including one of the first legal same-sex marriage in the state of Massachusetts. Along with many other positions and passions, Marion worked for several years at Reed & Barton and spent over 15 years as Director of Medical Records at Longmeadow Nursing Home.
Family was Marion's greatest joy. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who never missed a performance, game, or celebration. Her home was the heart of countless family gatherings, filled with laughter, love, and her signature birthday cakes.
Marion's legacy is one of compassion, strength, and deep devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and generous spirit.
Marion was the beloved wife of the late James M. Fottler Sr. (retired Sergeant, Fall River Police Department), and the devoted mother of Marion T. Koss of Taunton, Julia A. Duarte of Westport, Lynda M. Hampton and her husband Avery of Florida, James M. Fottler Jr. of Taunton, Angela L. Dubaz and her husband Anthony of Taunton, Theresa L. Fottler and her spouse Tony of Berkley, and Nicholas A. Fottler and his spouse Jessica of Somerset. She was the proud "Nana" of 15 and "Great-Nana" of 7 with number 8 on the way.
