Marion Gordon

Passed away on September 29, 2025 at the proud age of 99 3/4. Born in Elmira, NY, on January 17, 1926, Marion was the daughter of Gladys Iola Sampsell and Burton Austin Forsythe.

Marion retired from the Hilliard Corporation following 25 years of dedicated service, from 1962 to 1987. Throughout her career, she also worked as a telephone operator and as a desk clerk at the Mark Twain Hotel.

In retirement, Marion pursued her interests in bowling and sewing and dedicated herself to volunteering. She contributed many years of service as a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association and the ARC of Chemung and Schuyler Counties. Additionally, she enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, and participating in exercise classes at the Family Fitness Center in Elmira.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Sandy Gordon of Pine City and Diane Bower (Lou) of Lodi, NY; her grandchildren, Louie Bower, IV (Gretchen), with great-granddaughter Aven; Kyle Bower (Melissa), with great-granddaughter Gabby and great-grandsons Nate and Jack; Robert Hungerford; George Hungerford (Missy), with great-grandson Zack; Katie McCloskey (Randy), with great-granddaughter Lizzie and great-grandson Mac; and Andy Hungerford. Marion is also survived by her niece Lynette Pfiffer, and nephews Stephen Terwilliger, Alan Terwilliger (Nancy), and Jim Woodward (Cindy), who have been like sons to her.

She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Marcia Woodward and Phyllis Lyon, and her son, Robert Peter Hungerford, Jr.

In accordance with Marion's wishes, services will be private, and she will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY. Arrangements are entrusted to Baker Family Funeral Home in Horseheads, NY 14845. The family would like to thank CareFirstNY for their compassionate care of Marion and Woodbrook Assisted Living for their kindness in her last days.
