On Saturday evening, March 1, 2025, our beautiful mother, Marjorie Crum, took her lord and Savior's hand and entered the gates of Heaven. Her body healed and made whole, her eyesight and hearing restored, she saw the face of her Lord Jesus Christ and heard the angels sing. She experienced a great reunion with her family and friends that preceded her in death, especially her beloved Tommy.
She was known as Bargie, Mom, Margie, Mema, and GG to her family and many good friends. Margie and Tommy were very much a part of the Lancaster community. They raised their two sons, Tom Jr. and Terry, while she worked at the First National Bank as assistant to the President for many years. After Margie retired, she turned to her true passion of antiquing and being a full time Mema to her grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy!
Margie loved to spend time in Santa Fe and Taos, shopping and enjoying the small cabin she and Tommy had built and shared with friends. They had so many adventures and told stories that never grew old.
Margie made lasting friendships and enjoyed making greeting cards each one filled with love and created specifically for its recipient. She was making cards up until her last week here on earth. Greeting cards had a very special meaning for her. She had saved every card she had ever received for the 97 years of her life. They were precious to her; they were memories of people that were so important to her.
Margie was born October 9, 1927 in Coleman, Texas, to Tom Crews and Raymond Crews. She had one older sister, Frances. Margie loved her father and he affectionately called her "Kid," a name she adored. Her mother passed along her love of antiques to Margie. She met the love of her life at Coleman High School after joining the Tommy Crum Orchestra as the lead singer. After graduation, Margie entered college at Texas Tech, and Tommy enlisted in the Navy. But love prevailed and they were married in 1947.
After Tommy passed away in 2006, Margie moved to Houston to be closer her older son, Tom and his family. She made wonderful friends after being invited to join the Box Ladies Club by her daughter-in-law, Rosemary. She cherished those friendships. Then, due to health issues, she moved to Tyler, Texas to be closer to her younger son, Terry and his wife, Stephanie. It didn't take her long to make new friends at The Hamptons and later, Brookdale Assisted Living. Her joy of singing and entertainment followed her everywhere she went. She would be the first to volunteer to join a talent show. The sparkle in her blue eyes. great smile, and clever wit will be missed, but we rejoice that she is now singing with a heavenly choir.
Margie is survived by her children, Tom Crum of The Woodlands, Texas; Terry Crum and his wife, Stephanie of Tyler. Texas; grandchildren: Justin and Betsy Crum, Brian and Julie Crum, Jeremy and Monica Crum, Rusty Crum, Jamie and Jeff Scott, Stacey and DC Tardy, Glen and Mindy Purcell; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents. Tom and Raymond Crews, sister Frances Kiker, and husband Tommy Crum.
A celebration of Margie's life will be at 10:00am on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends just prior to the service.
