Marjorie Joan Hodkin, 91, Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025, at Mercy Hospital, Carthage. She was born on July 12, 1933, in Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of the late Raymond Stanley and Ruby (Byrket) Stanley. Marjorie's life was characterized by her loving nature, thoughtful demeanor, and a faith that shone brightly in all her endeavors.
Marjorie was a proud 1951 graduate of Carthage High School, where she laid the foundations of a life marked by diligence and a strong sense of community. She carried these values into her professional life, working as an office manager for Juvenile Shoes before taking on various roles at Leggett & Platt for 11 years, where she was known for her efficiency and warmth. She was the driving force that was responsible for starting the (PSI) Professional Secretaries International at Leggett & Platt. Marjorie married the love of her life, Clarence L. Hodkin on October 6, 1951, in Carthage, Missouri, and together they shared 49 wonderful years raising their family and making memories; he preceded her in death on October 14, 2000.
Beyond her professional achievements, Marjorie was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage. Her melodious voice was a staple in the church choir, and her generosity knew no bounds as she contributed to the church's mission in countless ways. She also taught the young married couples' Sunday school class at the church. Her faith was not just a part of her; it was a beacon that guided her through life's many chapters. Marjorie was also a member of the "Benjamin Babes", consisting of herself, Delorys, Joann, and Lois. All neighbors living on Benjamin Drive in Carthage, they wore that title proudly and their group will miss her dearly.
Marjorie's legacy is lovingly carried on by her family, who were the center of her world. She is survived by her children, Karla Miller (Bob), Richard Hodkin (Jodi), and Jeff Hodkin (Kristi). Her role as a grandmother was one she cherished deeply, and she leaves behind her grandchildren, Brock Baucom (Jill), Brooke Johnston (D.J.), Julie Tullis (Charlie), Eric Hodkin (Alex), Aaron VanLanduit (Whitney), Emily Smith (Hunter), Ashley Osborne (Jacob), and Alicia Osborne (Jared). Her great-grandchildren, Kayden, Kyla, Kinsley, Kane, Isabelle, A.J., Dylan, Averyann, Haysia, River, Ayla, Alden, Reese, Haddi, Elle, and Riley, as well as her great-great-grandchild, Berkeley, will grow up hearing tales of their beloved matriarch's kindness and grace. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Stanley; and her sisters, Faye Davis and Freeda Martin.
Graveside funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
