Marjorie "Marge" Hooley passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Saturday, April 26, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Stillwater, Minnesota to Alva (Wright) and Matthew Hooley. Marge graduated from Stillwater High School in 1946, and she graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in education. She spent one fabulous year studying at La Sorbonne University in Paris, France. She began teaching at Edina High School but spent a majority of her career teaching elementary grades in the St. Louis Park, Minnetonka, and Hopkins, Minnesota school districts. She cherished the time she spent living in Southern California when she taught there for 2 years.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Matthew Hooley; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean (Clarence) Corrigan and Dorothy (Robert) Thueson; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack (Joyce) Hooley and Charles (Nancy) Hooley; and nephew, Thomas Corrigan.
Marge is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Tom (Betsy) Hooley; 21 nieces and nephews, 62 grandnieces and grandnephews, many great-grands, and dear friends.
Known to many as Marvelous Marge, she had a gift for connection, always taking time to speak with each adult or child, truly listening to them and remembering the details of their lives. Our fun-loving aunt would take 3 or 4 of her nieces and nephews to her condo in Minnetonka for a weekend of movies, junk food, and swimming in her pool. Each Halloween the bravest trick or treaters would find her in an elaborate costume, carrying out a hilarious prank, or perhaps even hiding in a tree ready for the scare. She lived her Catholic faith by providing lifelong support to many nuns and was a strong supporter of women, cheering them on to reach their highest potential. Even at 97, she continued to make connections between people to help them advance with their careers and passions. She lived a beautiful life and will be dearly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at the Church of St. Michael, 611 3rd St. S, Stillwater, MN 55082. Luncheon to follow at St. Mary's Church Social Hall.
